Locations:
For Preliminary Task #1, our group has decided to set our film in the woods, in a area with many trees and lots of shrubbery. This will make it seem as if our character is deep in the forest, with no one around to help him in his predicament.
The first location that came to mind was Riverhead forest, which would be the ideal location to shoot at, as it looks like what we envisioned based on photos online. Another reason why it would be an ideal location to shoot at is that one of our group members is familiar with the forest, having previously been there. The only downside is that it is about a 40 minute drive from the school.
Another idea we had was to film at Woodhill Forest, which is about the same distance out as the one in Riverhead. In addition to this, a member of our group is familiar with this area as well. However, based on the photos online, it seems like more a commercial area with more people passing through, which isn't ideal as we would want to film in a secluded place.
Before we start filming, I'll take a trip out to both of these locations so that we can determine which one will help create the mood/atmosphere we're hoping to achieve.
On the day it would be wise to travel out to the location a couple hours prior to the shoot, so that we can further familiarize ourselves with the area, set up equipment, as well as practice some of our shots.
The weather forecast shows that the days leading up to our shoot will be sunny, meaning that the forest should be safe, and that there'll be little to no mud to pose any safety risks.
Riverhead Forest Site Visit:
In order to get a better feel and understanding of the locations, I went out to take some photos and find a suitable area to film in. On the day, I was only able to go to Riverhead, which was the location ended up choosing.
